The WhatsApp blue tick: what Meta asks for
The blue tick is a verified badge beside your business name on WhatsApp. Meta calls it an Official Business Account, and Meta alone decides who gets it. Here is what Meta checks, where to apply and what to do if the answer is no.
What Meta checks
Keep to the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy
Your business and the messages you send must follow Meta's WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy.
At least 30 days on the WhatsApp Business Platform
Your business must have been registered on the platform for at least 30 days before you apply.
A verified business portfolio
Complete Meta's Business Verification in Meta Business Suite, under Security Center. Your legal business name, address, phone number and website must match your company's registration, and the website must load over https. If Meta cannot match your details, it asks for official documents, such as your CIPC registration papers. Meta says a decision can take up to 14 business days.
Meta's Help Center also accepts, instead of verification, a record of high-quality messages: at least 1,000 conversations over 30 days in a row. Meta's developer documentation lists only verification, so verifying is the surer route.
How Meta verifies a business (opens Meta's site in a new tab)
Two-step verification on the number
Turn on two-step verification for the business phone number in WhatsApp Manager. Meta asks you to do this before it lets you submit the request.
An approved display name
Meta must have approved your business's display name, and the number must be using that name when you apply.
Where to apply
- Go to Meta Business Suite (business.facebook.com) and choose your business portfolio.
- Click All tools, then WhatsApp Manager.
- Under WhatsApp accounts, click the phone number you want the blue tick on.
- In the Profile section, find Official business account and click Submit request.
- Fill in what Meta asks for, then click Submit.
If you meet every point but see no Submit request button, ask Meta Support to check your eligibility. If your number is on our account, ask us and we raise it with Meta.
After you apply
Meta reviews the request and sends you a notification with its answer. If it says no, fix what was missing and ask again after 30 days.
Before you apply
- Meta does not grant the blue tick to business employees, test accounts or WhatsApp Business app phone numbers.
- If your number also runs in the WhatsApp Business app while connected to the platform (Meta calls this coexistence), we have not yet confirmed whether Meta grants it the blue tick. Ask us before you apply.
- Meta checks the business portfolio that owns the number. If your agent's number is on your own WhatsApp Business account, that is your business. If it is a dedicated number we registered for you, it sits on our account, so talk to us before you apply.
- Lead alerts in a WhatsApp group, which Pro clients can ask for, need the blue tick: Meta opens its groups feature only to Official Business Accounts on the WhatsApp Cloud API, and not to WhatsApp Business app numbers.
